Pentagon Reveals Ending Military Training Funding at Harvard

(MENAFN) The Pentagon announced on Friday that it will eliminate financial support for all military training initiatives at Harvard University.

"I am discontinuing all graduate-level professional military education ... all fellowships and certificate programs between Harvard University and The War Department for active duty servicemembers," Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated in a video message.

This decision comes as the Trump administration intensifies its confrontation with the Ivy League institution over divergent political perspectives, covering topics from the Israel-Hamas conflict to diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

"University leadership encouraged a campus environment that celebrated Hamas, allowed attacks on Jews, and still promotes discrimination based on race in violation of Supreme Court decisions," Hegseth remarked.

He further criticized Harvard’s opposition to the military, asserting that the private university is unfit to receive federal funds.

"Today, this university... which receives billions of our federal tax dollars, is one of the red hot centers of Hate America activism," Hegseth said. "Too many faculty members openly loathe our military. They cast our armed forces in a negative light and squelch anyone who challenges their leftist political leanings, all while charging enormous tuition. It's not worth it."

The Pentagon confirmed that the funding reductions will take effect in the 2026–27 academic year. Current military students enrolled in courses will be allowed to complete their programs.
